Game Balls: Tulane

Following each game Owls Insider will recognize the standout performers by handing out our game balls. Here are the game balls from Rice's 17-13 western division clinching victory over Tulane which helped get the Owls one step closer to a conference championship.
Entire Defense: Head coach David Bailiff said it best during his post-game press conference when he said the game ball from today's game goes to the defense. The defense held the Green Wave to just 123 yards of total offense. The Green Wave were only able to muster up 26 yards rushing on 21 rushing attempts an astounding average of just 1.2 yards-per-carry. The passing game wasn't much better for Tulane with Nick Montana completing just 14-of-31 passes for 97 yards and just one touchdown. The most notable stat of the night was the Owls held Tulane to just 1-of-14 on third down conversions.

Charles Ross & Jowan Davis: The Owls had more of a committee approach tonight at running back with the true freshman Davis sharing time with Ross and splitting the majority of the carries right down the middle. Ross averaged 5.3 yards-per-carry with 80 yards on 15 rushing attempts and the emerging Davis finished with 57 yards and one touchdown on 15 rushing attempts.
Dennis Parks: Parks earns a repeat game ball for his five catch, 75 yard performance on Saturday, Parks has really emerged as a viable option in the passing game the last couple of weeks and had one of the bigger plays of the game on third and long when he hauled in a big-time catch to give the Owls a bit of life and new set of downs allowing them to gain more field position and chew off more time late in the game.
James Farrimond: The freshman Farrimond averaged 43.5 yards-per-punt with a long of 53 and arguably the biggest punt of his young career when he sailed one and dropped it down inside the Tulane two yard line, pinning the Green Wave back in what would be a major play in helping seal the Owls fate as Western Division champions.
