October 30, 2009 Focused on adding weapons to an Offense depleted by graduation last spring, the Rice Owls have a handful of recruits committed for the 2010 class that could find their way to the playing field early on as Owls. The two who have put up the biggest statistical numbers this year are Lake Travis' Andy Erickson and Paris Chisum's Jeremy Eddington. Combined the two have already accounted for over 2,500 yards of Offense this season. Erickson lines up at every skill position but Quarterback in the Lake Travis Offense. "I play Running Back and Slot mostly. Sometimes I'm split wide though. It's a fun Offense to play in because we have so many weapons. Lately I haven't gotten the ball as much just because we spread it around. People have been keying on me some so it opens things up for the other guys." Nevertheless, Erickson has rung up 1,355 all-purpose yards and 18 touchdowns already in 2009. Eddington plays Quarterback for Paris Chisum, and though the Mustangs technically run a Spread Offense, the 6-2 215 pound Eddington is the work horse. He's already rushed for over 1,200 yards in 2009. "Lately we've kept it on the ground mostly. I don't mind throwing the ball, but we've been able to move the chains without putting the ball up much." Both players will have early opportunities in the Rice Offense. Erickson's yards after the catch make him particularly appealing to what has been an anemic Owl Offense in 2009. By the same token, Eddington's running style is a perfect fit for the Rice zone-run scheme. The two could be part of the pending talent infusion that should ignite the Owls next year. Transfers Taylor Cook and Sam McGuffie, along with redshirt Quarterback Taylor McHargue give the Owls a dynamic group of impact players to build around in 2010. Tonight Lake Travis (8-0) is on the road as it travels to play arch-rival Dripping Springs at 7:30. Eddington also travels with his Paris Chisum team to an away game, taking on Rivercrest in Bogata at 7:30. |
