It's Homecoming at East Carolina this weekend and the Pirates would love to do exactly what teams usually do to homecoming opponents - beat the snot out of them and send them back on their way home.

Of course East Carolina wants to win Saturday but even more so, is looking to rebound from a stinging loss in Dallas last weekend to SMU. The Pirate Defense actually played very well in a losing effort, holding Southern Methodist to less than 300 yards in the game.

However the Pirates were victimized by a few big plays that made the difference in the outcome, including a 96 yard touchdown hook-up between Bo Levi Mitchell and Aldrick Robinson, a 63 blocked field goal return, and a 53 yard interception return.

The Pirate Defense yielded only 14 points on the day, still ECU lost 28-21.

Overall, the Pirate D has made consistent improvements each week this season in their Defensive play - giving up 509 yards to West Virginia, then steadily improving to a season best yards allowed 294 against the Ponies.

Let's hope that remains their best effort after Saturday's game with the Owls is done...
